Franz Böhm Director

Franz Böhm is a London-based award-winning director, focused on socially relevant and true-story-based material.
He worked in various set positions before making his first solo film Harmonie der Anderen.

After working for the German TV Channel ZDF, Franz next project found him living with youth experiencing homelessness, the resulting documentary, Christmas Wishes, was selected as the opening film for the German Youth Film Awards. Franz then directed the short drama Good Luck; which premiered at the British Independent Film Festival.

Dear Future Children is his debut feature film, which was awarded the Audience Award at its world premiere during the 42nd Max-Ophüls-Prize Film Festival. Its international premieres took place at CPH:DOX and Hot Docs International Film Festival, where it also won the Audience Award. The film later won both the Audience Award and the Main Jury Award at the 2022 German Documentary Award, making him the youngest director to receive this honor. Distributed in the UK and 39 other countries, the film attracted over 90.000 cinema viewers globally.

He completed his MA in Directing Fiction at the National Film And Television School where he directed Rock Paper Scissors, a true-story based short film starring Oleksandr Rudynskyi. The film played at numerous film festivals, including Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Cambridge Film Festival, Norwich Film Festival and London Super Shorts Festival. It is nominated for the 2025 EE BAFTAs.

He is currently in preparation for his next feature film, supported by the German Federal Film Board (FFA), the MFG Film Fund Baden-Württemberg, the Austrian Film Institute (ÖFI), the Vienna Film Fund (FFW), and FFF Bavaria. The film is co-produced by the public broadcasters ARTE, SWR, BR, and ORF, and developed in collaboration with ACE Producers and FOCAL Production Value.

Franz Böhm is a BAFTA Connect member, as well as a member of Directors UK and the Bundesverband Filmregie (German Federal Association of Film Directors).
